After fifty-six years, and as summertime nears,
An announcement arrives in the mail,
A reunion is planned; it'll be really grand;
Make plans to attend without fail.
We'll try so hard to impress.
We'll drive fancy cars, and smoke big cigars,
And wear our most elegant dress.
To be held at the Lions Club Center.
We'll wine, and we'll dine, and we'll act so refined,
It'll be really a great get together.
To achieve great fortune and fame.
Meanwhile, their spouses will define their nice houses
And how beautiful their children became.
Now weighs in at one-ninety-six.
The jocks who'll be there have all lost their hair,
And the cheerleaders can no longer do kicks.
Who'd guided a spacecraft to the moon;
Or poor little Jane, who's always been plain;
She married a shipping tycoon.
Is serving ten years in the pen,
While the one voted 'least' now is a priest;
Just shows you can be wrong now and then.
Who seemed to have aged the least..
And one will be given to the grad who has driven
The farthest to attend the feast.
Of beehives, crew cuts and wide ties.
Tall, short, or skinny, the style will be mini;
You'll never see so many thighs.
They impress their classmates or not.
The mood is informal, a whole lot more normal;
By this time we'll be all gone to pot.
We'll eat hamburgers, coleslaw, and beans.
Then most will just lay around in the shade,
In our comfy T-shirts and blue jeans.
When the next one is near, it'll be abundantly clear,
We were definitely over the hill.
Those who weren't dead had to crawl out of bed,
And be home in time for their pill.
So I really can't wait; they've just set the date;
The "Big One" is coming, I'm told.
It should be a ball, they've rented a hall
At the Shady Rest Home for the old.
Repairs have been made on my hearing aid;
My pacemaker's been turned up on high.
My wheelchair is oiled, and my teeth have been boiled;
And I've bought a new wig and glass eye.
I'm feeling quite hearty, and I'm ready to party
I'm gonna dance 'til dawn's early light.
It'll be lots of fun; But I just hope that there's one
Other person who can make it that night.

GEARY, THE LONE RANGER, and TONTO
The Lone Ranger said to Tonto one day,
Lets take a trip up to Geary.
I have some old friends I've wanted to see,
Jasper, Dale, Douglas and Larry.
So he jumped up on Silver, and Tonto on Scout,
And just before noon they both headed out.
Twas a long way to go, maybe two or three days,
And a couple of nights spent sleeping on hay.
The horses were healthy, and so it would be,
The trip would be easy, with friends there to see.
They laughed as they rode, and they dined in the wild,
Just two good old boys, in the mind of a child.
They were my hero's, and I wanted to see,
If they looked anything like what I'd seen on TV.
They traveled along all the dust-laden trails,
The horses were thirsty and wagging their tails.
They soon came to cross the old Rockwell Stream,
Hidden deep in the woods was a fisherman's dream.
The horses were watered the riders would eat,
Then down stream to Geary, where friends they would meet.
As they drew closer to Freeman Smiths store,
There was laughter of children from water, and shore.
Oh what a day this was going to be,
The Lone Ranger and Tonto were visiting me.
My friends and theirs had gathered around,
Horses with thundering hooves on the ground?
Frightening at first, but when they would appear,
The children let out with a deafening cheer.
They all were excited dancing with glee,
When their hero's approached as they would on TV.
Then Silver did rise up, on his two back feet,
The Lone Ranger, dismounted and started to greet.
As Tonto slid down off the warm back of Scout,
He raised his hand hi to a welcome of shouts.
The bonding that took place there on that day,
Will not be forgotten and will not fade away.
The children were happy seeing heroes and friends,
Three days had passed when they rode off again.
The Lone Ranger and Tonto, have long since been gone,
But like the children of Geary, their Legend lives on.
This is similar to what we will all experience in August of 2012.
Hope you have enjoyed this bit of imagination. Geo

Records show that, if the first three months of this year are any indication, we are in for a warmer than usual year ahead. January started off moderately in the single digits with a steady increase to double digits around the middle of the month, and ending somewhere in the high 30’s. February continued this trend reaching into the mid to upper 70’s. March saw record-breaking numbers and closed out the month with an unbelievable high of 127*. This pattern will stall over summer months and is expected to be moderate with very little change, and only slight increases in the current trend. This is mainly due to vacation planning, summer holidays, ocean front beaches, and private getaway resorts. BBQ’s may increase the temperature somewhat, however, significant changes are not expected to spoil summer fun. This weak front will move on sometime near the end of September and we will see numbers steadily increase; although not at the same rate as the beginning of this year.
Long Range Forecast:
A tiny hole in the FB Ozone is beginning to show up over the small community of Geary, New Brunswick. Early in the year of 2012, as colder weather leaves us once again, this hole is expected to widen. It is not inconceivable to see numbers reach upwards of 200* to 250*, with an all time high of perhaps 300* in early August. We have an EMO (Every Member Organized) team on hand to make sure these record-breaking numbers bring no harm to the residents of this small community. It will be hot, but not unbearable. Tears may fall and flood warnings can be expected Friday evening, August 3rd, so you are advised to bring a dry change of clothes and a towel or two. Classics are expected to roll in early on Saturday, August 4th. This Show of (sun) Shine could last until Sunday evening, August 5th, with intermittent spells of Crowds gathering throughout these two days. Saturday evening you can look forward to Thundering applause from the crowd as Reigning music from the era is broadcast over the airwaves. You should bring umbrellas and comfortable bedding, as this disturbance is expected to intensify throughout the weekend. Numbers will gradually fall late Sunday evening and by Monday, August 6th at noon, things should be back to normal.

The survey results were decisive -- the majority of classmates prefer to have the Grand Reunion in the month of August. Based on this, we have chosen the first weekend of August, 2012, for the reunion. This is a holiday weekend for many.
We are tentatively planning to get the gears of the reunion rolling mid-afternoon on Friday and have the closing ceremonies on Monday morning before noon.
The only thing settled at this point is the date range. The schedule of activities and so on are all to be worked out, and we'll seek input and keep you well-informed. But you can now tell your children not to count on you to look after the grandkids that weekend, and tell your boss you're taking leave, and tell your neighbours to keep an eye on the house, because you're HEADING TO GEARY for the GRAND REUNION!
Looking forward to seeing you there,
Bonnie, Geo, Eric, and Dale

“Take The Money And Run.”…. Steve Miller Band.
Remember that great song? Well it fits with what we have in mind – "Take The Money And Run" ... all the way to the GRHS Grand Reunion of 2012.
We have set up the GRHS Classmates Reunion bank account, but -- guess what -- it's empty!
We're really hoping we can work together to change that. We're hoping that each member cares enough about the Reunion to personally contribute financially toward it becoming a reality. To our knowledge, none of our classmates has become fabulously rich enough to bank-roll it. What then? Well, there will be some fundraising activities later, but if we could all personally contribute small amounts, our funds should grow quickly.
Here's a great idea -- Geo has decided to put all of his returnable container refunds from now to the Reunion into the Reunion account. If others did the same we could really make the account grow (and it might be a relatively painless way to contribute). Geo is also thinking of a yard sale to generate some funds. Doesn't that sound like a good idea? Of course, you might find it easier simply to put some cash in the kitty. If each member dropped in even ten dollars ....
By now, you're getting the idea. The more funds we raise and the more support we gain, be it by donations, by bottle drives, by bake sales, by sponsors, or by little old you just saving a few pesos to buy one of our upcoming package offers, you will be contributing to a worthy cause. Remember . . . the more we raise now . . . the better it will be at reunion time. We have a bank account, we have an accounting department, and we have a mailing address -- so let's all get out there and add a little Gold to the Pot.
Oh yes, and one more thing. We are hoping that we will be able to work with the administrators of the Geary Elementary School and turn over any funds remaining after all Grand Reunion expenses have been covered to go toward specified needs of the school.
Thanks,,,,,Bonnie, Rick, Dale and Geo

(From the past)
Driving on to the school grounds in a ’56 to ’67,
Standing in the hallway, without expecting to get the strap.
Going to the bathroom for the real reason, and not just to comb your hair.
Mrs. Myles or Miss Emmett with a smile.
Jim Davidson in skates with a hockey sweater on.
The many memories currently in your tickle trunk are being exposed once again, and you will now be able to add new ones. What you might call coming out of The Crypt.
What to Expect
(In the future)
We are at a point now where the question is being asked, “What will these guys think of next?” Well friends, buckle up. This is going to be the ride of a lifetime. The Grand Reunion is now the focal point and the grand finalĂ© to a wonderful adventure. When we roll into Geary on the Friday of that weekend it will be like reliving “
We will continue to provide as much entertainment as possible on our Facebook Group Site. We encourage you to participate as much as possible to maintain the momentum we are currently experiencing. It works, if you work it, you're worth it, so work it.
Glad you're here. See you there.

On Going Changes

Welcome to our new Blog:
First I would like to thank George (Geo) Donovan for his inspirational vision of a meeting place for all former people who attended, or was associated with the Geary Rural High School. I would also like to thank Bonnie Anderson Cogswell for her dedicated support in assisting George with this huge undertaking.
As for myself, I got hooked after Peter Carr added me to the Facebook group.
I read some of the comments, had a few conversations, and that was it. It felt like I was back in the small community that I so loved growing up in.
When George asked if there was anyone capable of building a blog site for the group, I had no choice but to try and help. I felt it was necessary to contribute, and to support this worthy adventure.
So here it is Folks our very own site, a place to catch up with, and remember some of the past. George and Bonnie have agreed to take over the postings after a period of time; I will always be here to keep the site working in the background.
This is just the place for great memories and fun things. We have all experienced enough bad, so let’s focus on all the fun, the old jukebox days, fishing in Snake Creek or swimming in the Rockwell Stream. Remember the good things like, skating on the outdoor rinks, walking to the canteen every night, or even our favorite TV shows, and so much more.
In the past few days I have chatted with, and emailed more old friends than I could ever have imagined. We may not live near each other, but we are close. These old memories will help us to recall all of the wonderful feelings of being young and growing up in a small community where it all began many years ago.
I hope you enjoy the site, and please leave comments on the postings.
Have fun, Eric (Rick) Carr

MEMORIES
MEMORY: n. the faculty of retaining and recalling knowledge; recollection.
MEMENTO: n. anything which serves as a reminder of a person or event; a souvenir.
MEMORABILIA: n. things worthy of note.
It is with the utmost respect to all our fellow classmates that we give you a place and an opportunity to go back in time. To reconnect, to reminisce, to get caught up on events in each others lives but, most importantly to show one another that we DO REMEMBER those people and events that meant so much to each of us while growing up. A time before marriages, careers, raising families and other adult responsibilities. Help us to recall and rekindle those carefree days while attending Geary Rural High School. Your photos, documents and recollections are welcomed and encouraged. Come often, stay long, chat and enjoy this site. IT'S YOURS.
